Avoid large prints for fear they might add volume!
Imagine instead a deep midnight blue background, where flowers cover only one side, diagonally. Stop imagining: the Camille is composed like a painting, and the placement of the pattern slims rather than broadens.
-
A placement print
The flowers — poppies, peonies, foliage — occupy the bottom and only one side. The rest is solid, which elongates the line of the torso. -
Midnight blue
The dark background does half the work: it slims, is suitable for all year round, and makes the colors of the bouquet more vivid without making them gaudy. -
Bold colors
Coral, ochre, deep green, touches of blue: the palette is that of a painted bouquet. It immediately brightens up black trousers. -
Arabesque quilting
The decorative stitching draws curves instead of diamonds, which softens the drape and avoids a puffy effect. -
Gold buttons
The front closes with a row of light buttons up to the high collar, to protect against the wind without losing elegance.
A large pattern does not broaden when it is placed and set against a dark background. Put this reservation aside, and this becomes the jacket to wear whenever you're in doubt.
